SEO Tips For Website Ranking in Google and other search engines

Google wants to reward searchers with quality results. In other words there are two factors to consider if you want your website to rank high in the search engines.

1/ Onpage SEO

It’s important to have relevant content on your page which people are searching for. If you don’t include search terms in your content, how can you expect to rank high.
Besides having relevant content, and attempting to rank on page one for that content, you must understand the need to engage with your visitor. Generally speaking your visitor will have some form of problem which you need to address.
They may need help from a service provider, in which case, depending on what they were searching for, happened to land on your webpage. How will you address their needs whilst including search terms.

For example: Someone is searching for “full car service Green Lane” (simplified example)

The website that’s been indexed by Google with the closest match including those search terms, will rank the best (theoretically).

So lets say a visitor having used that search term clicks on your page from Google search results. How are you going to tempt them to take the next step (phone you)?

The page which ranks the best will have the search term in the title:
Full Car Service Green Lane Auckland Toyota Mitsubishi Mazda

Then your body content must also include the search term
Full car service in Green Lane – we service all car makes and models including:
Toyota
Mitsubishi
Mazda
etc and so on…

Our Green Lane vehicle service shop is fully equipped and ready to bring new life to your car… we stop at nothing.

Our ears are attuned to notice any irregular sounds, so feel comfortable that when you drive your car away, there’ll be no issues.

If you’re having a pre-holiday vehicle service… relax… you’re safe.

The only thing we ask of you is to keep your car serviced at all times.
We say this because all too often, people bring in their cars when they have serious problems.
While we are experts and can still rescue any type of problem, we’re simply saying the extra expense is avoidable.

Have a read at what some of our customers have said
“client testimonial 1″
“client testimonial 2″
“client testimonial 3″

We have a vehicle management programme and will notify you when it’s time to re-service your car. Having your car serviced at our Green Lane Service Centre regularly will save you money as well as keep you safe.

Give us a call and book in your car… we’ll look after you.

Hopefully you’ll realise that I wrote a simplyfied example, but more importantly tried to engage with a customer, addressing their needs (you know your customers problems better), whilst including the search term in the title and in the body copy, with a “call to action”(phone you).

This is “onpage” SEO basics… the bare minimum. It’s all about the structure of your website.

2/ Next is “offpage” SEO

This has been covered in other articles, but is just as important as “onpage” SEO

Let’s say there are many people trying to rank for the same search term and they too have optimised their page title and body content… who gets ranked higher?

The webpage that has most links on other relevant websites pointing back to that page will win… it’s that simple.

Example: Your webpage is www.yourwebsite.co.nz/full-car-service-green-lane
and has 100 other websites with that link will out rank a webpage from your competitor with www.theirwebsite.co.nz/full-car-service-green-lane with only 80 links on other websites.

Even better is if your webpages on other sites are in the form of “anchor text”

Anchor text is a link which appear as words (Full Car Service Green Lane)
There is some code involved but is easy to implement. Anchor text carries more weight.
So if the links to your webpage from other websites are in the form of anchor text, then you can out rank a competitor on Google even if you have less links pointing back to your webpage.

In a nutshell, this is a basic example in layman’s terms of SEO Tips For Website Ranking in Google and other search engines

Here is Googles brief description:

Google, Bing, and Yahoo have announced they’re supporting new markup language to add to web pages. Because they are the major search engines, and they’re collaborating, any website owner must pay attention… if they want to improve their natural search results.

All webmasters involved with website design and search engine optimization need to employ these new initiatives if they want to have an impact in driving qualified visitors to a website.

Google’s own blog describes how the search engines are coming together with this newly supported web initiative called schema.org

In their blog, Google acknowledges that it takes time and effort for webmasters to add markup especially when every search engines asks for data in a different way. That’s why it’s important they’re all coming together in . supporting this common set of schemas

In addition to bringing together the already supported schemas, there are now new categories, such as; movies, music, organizations, TV shows, products, places and more. By adding this new markup, search engines can develop richer search experiences.

Schema.org is designed to expand and grow organically. They have said they’re broadening the functionality of the schemas, by accepting webmaster’s feedback who have adapted the markup. By having a collaborative community, this new markup can extend to be adopted for search engines to use.

This may seem daunting for the average website owner, but the implications of not learning and including the schemas into every page of their site, will have negative results over time.

We all know that not every website is created equally, and that those who employ webmasters, trained in website optimization, have an unfair advantage. A website owner has three choices; learn themselves, employ an expert, or do nothing! It’s understandable that most businesses are time poor, and learning how to maintain a website is difficult at best… especially ensuring their website is optimized for attracting target visitors. However, without stating the obvious, it makes sense to outsource the important task of website optimization to a specialist.

Learning and applying this new structured markup is not the only requirement for better search engine results, but if you’re employing an SEO consultant, make sure they know about schema

Video Marketing is not only for SEO purposes

I saw a website recently that posted several online videos that aimed at educating visitors about job searching.

The series of online videos took a cross section of job hunters and followed them over a period of weeks, from their initial preparation, all the way to job interviews.

The videos were both entertaining and informative and the quality was of a high standard.

It was obvious the website wasn’t using the videos as a marketing strategy or sales push, but simply adding great content and information for job seekers.

It reminded me that providing a reason for visitors to return is a perfect website strategy for building customer loyalty.

It’s a good idea for any business to have a video strategy (why have a video), so you can provide as much value as you can for your visitors.

The anchor text, or link title is the visible, clickable text in a hyperlink. Here’s an example Internet Marketing Tips where Internet Marketing Tips is the anchor text. It comes from one of the web pages on my site. This is what it looks like <a title=”Internet Marketing Tips” href=”http://www.internetmarketingrocket.com/category/internet-marketing-tips/” target=”_blank”>Internet Marketing Tips</a>

Anchor text usually gives your visitors useful information about the content of the page you’re linking to.

Anchor text is important because it lets search engines know what a web page is about and if you’re after great on-page SEO, then why not use anchor text to your advantage.

The words contained in the anchor text can determine the ranking that the page will receive by search engines.

Google likes to reward any user searching on its engine, with highly relevant search results. If you’re searching for healthy dog treats, then you expect to find exactly what you’re looking for, within the first two pages of Google.

Google also wants you to find results fast and is able to achieve this by seeing the anchor text throughout any ones website (the anchor text explains briefly what the page is about).

If you really want to achieve high rankings with Google fast, then you need to know what people are searching for (keyword research). You MUST have relevant anchor text on each page.

Don’t use phrases like click here, because you are telling people your page is about “click here”.

One thing to note is, you don’t want to plaster your site (each page) with too many of the same anchor text versions; otherwise you’ll be considered over-optimizing your page. You may be penalized by Google for doing this.

You can use anchor text for:

Links on your main page (recommended).

External links – links from other sites

Internal links – links on your pages

Navigation maps

Links to images

Most internet marketers are tracking website links from search engines, as well as links from other websites, plus search advertising campaigns. But how about visitors that show up as "Direct Traffic?" Where do they came from? When you have a good system in place for adding campaign tracking codes to your URLs, you need to remember to track everything. Have a look at these 5 tracking suggestions you may not be doing:

Specific Words or Graphics Inside Your Website. If you have submit/click here buttons or text links, or clickable images on different pages in your website and you're trying to get a specific response from your visitors, then are you measuring them? Well you should be adding tracking codes to those images, because you'll want to know the percentages of people clicking on them. You don't want to be assuming what your viewers are clicking on… you can accurately measure their behaviour and maybe even test and improve their visitor experience.

Offline Marketing Tracking. It's a good idea to have separate tracking URLs for any offline advertising, whether it be; radio, TV, newspapers or magazines. Just to repeat… add tracking codes to your links from every place where you've added your website URL (business cards, classified ads, telephone book ads etc…). If your business has signs everywhere, then you may want to add a tracked URL there? Anywhere there is a customer touchpoint with your website URL visable, then make sure you have a trackable code there. Add a tracking URL to any phone enquiry… the list goes on. Can you see the sense?

Email Signature Links. You may have a link to your website in your email signature that goes out every time you send an email. But are you tracking whether anybody clicks on them or not? With testing and tracking, you may be able to increase the opening response rate, especially if you have a great "call to action".

Social Media Status Updates. Any links that you Tweet, add to Facebook, or leave in your social media updates should have tracking codes. Incoming links from social media often come without a referrer for lots of reasons, therefore making each individual campaign, tracked, so you can identify what's working, from where and how you can modify the campaigns not performing. Also, use tracking URLs in your profile link back to your site, so you can easily see which profiles bring site visitors and which don't.

Article Bio Links. Its a good idea to add tracking links to any content that you write for in other websites, such as; blogs, newsletters, articles, press releases, forum responses. There is so much power in having your links added to as many sites as possible, but even better if you can track where your visitors are coming from. For example, you may be able to see which articles are bringing the most amount of traffic.

Video Marketing Commonly Referred To As

Online Videos

Are 50 times more likely to show up on the first page of search engine results than text pages.

Not too many businesses have cottoned on to this fast SEO video strategy. I believe most companies aren’t aware of the high ranking possibilities.

Many clients have asked me how they can leverage this potential power.

Online Video Marketing Tips:

Optimal Video Length – should be between 90 to 200 seconds – WHY? Any Longer and they’ll feign interest… you’ll simply lose them. It’s best to engage your viewer and get their interest.

Where To Post Online Videos – They should be placed high on your website where your visitor can instantly see them as they land. The top section of your website is termed “above the fold”. It’s the golden real estate of your site and where most websites have a name capture system (opt-in), offering any type of bonus… a little seduction, giving new visitors the chance to receive a bonus offering, in exchange for their email details (email marketing strategy).

Your marketing video should be placed onto your own website first

Next you should submit the video to Social Networks such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter links, etc…

Important SEO Steps

It’s critical when you add online videos to social media sites to include highly searched for keywords into the respective area. Here’s an example using comfortable running shoes (I haven’t researched this niche – it’s only an example)

Title – (comfortable running shoes)

Description or Bio – (These most comfortable running shoes will improve your training results)

Category – (sports)

Tags or Keywords – (comfortable running shoes, running shoes, sports shoes, training shoes

Website URL – (http://www.comfortablerunningshoes.co.nz) – this is not a real website

All social networks are high ranking which means if you submit your online videos to as many as possible, then you’ll benefit by seeing your videos ranked highly, possibly several times.

Remember… you must do keyword research and add accurate details in the appropriate spaces.

These strategies also apply to images, banners, photos.

Ideas For Video Marketing

Employee training

Customer service

Product launches

Product descriptions

Branding

Trade show promotions etc…

Always consider your viewer

Every ‘web surfer’ is self indulgent (me included) and always have in mind when visiting a site “what’s in it for me” (WIIFM). Therefore make it interesting, keep it short and list the benefits more than the features.

At the end of your video have a strong CALL TO ACTION telling them what to do next. It could be to leave their email to receive a discount (Check out email marketing tips), or maybe to go to another area of your site. In fact your website should be structured to lead a visitor in a systematic way.

If you need help with video marketing click here

Have a look at these videos a software company created and posted on some social media sites as well as their own.

In under a week they received over 1,000,000 views and had a click-through rate of 5% landing them back to a landing page.
